Lite Waldorf Angel Cake

1 box angel food cake mix
1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
3/4 cup baking cocoa
1/4 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup toasted slivered almonds
2 ( 12 ounce ) cartons of whipped topping

Prepare and bake cake according to package directions.
Invert cake to cool completely. Then place it on a plate upside down.
Cut 1 inch (not 2!) layer off top of cake.
Then cut cake 1 inch from outer and inner edges of cake, leaving 1 inch on bottom.
Remove cake within well.
Place cake on serving plate.
Combine confectioners' sugar, cocoa, salt, and 1/3 cup of almonds with whipped topping in a bowl and mix well.
Spoon 1/2 mixture into cake well. Press mixture firmly.
Replace top cake layer. Press this down.
Frost cake with remaining whipped topping mixture.
Sprinkle remaining almonds on top of the cake.
Chill cake and yourself for about 4 hours.
