Country Beef and Beans

1 pound of dried pinto beans
2 cloves of garlic, minced
6 cups of water
1 6 ounce can tomato paste
1/2 pound of salt pork, cut up into 1 inch cubes
1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder
1 pound of chuck steak, cut into 1 inch cubes
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 red chili pepper
1/2 teaspoon marjoram
1 medium onion, chopped

Soak beans in water overnight. Brown salt pork and chuck steak in skillet. Remove meat and drain off fat on paper towels. In slow cooker, combine soaked beans with water, browned pork, chuck steak and remaining ingredients. Cover and cook 1 hour on high. Reduce heat to low and cook an additional 8 to 9 hours, or until meat is very tender.
