Chocolate Sweetheart Bread (ABM)


1 egg, beaten 1
1 cup milk, room temperature 250 mL
2 tbsp butter or margarine 30 mL
3 cups ROBIN HOOD Best For Bread Homestyle White Flour 750 mL
1 1/2 tsp salt 7 mL
3 tbsp sugar 45 mL
1 1/2 tsp bread machine yeast 7 mL


1/4 cup sugar 50 mL
1/4 cup cocoa, sifted 50 mL
1/4 cup butter, melted 50 mL


1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted 50 mL
2 tbsp icing sugar, (optional) 30 mL


Beat egg in measuring cup. Add milk to make 1 1/3 cups (325 mL). Add butter.

PREPARE dough in bread machine according to manufacturer's directions.

ROLL out on lightly floured board to 24" x 8" (60 x 20 cm) rectangle.


Combine all ingredients for filling. Spread over dough, leaving a 1" (2.5 cm) border around edges. Roll up tightly, jelly roll fashion from longer side. Seal ends. Place seam side down on greased baking sheet. Shape into a heart.

COVER with tea towel and let rise in warm place (75-85F/24-29C) until doubled (30-40 minutes).

BAKE at 400F (200C) for 15-20 minutes. Remove from baking sheet immediately. Cool on wire rack. Drizzle melted chocolate over cooled bread. Just before serving, dust with icing sugar, if desired.
