Maple Butterscotch Brownies
Brownies donít have to be made with chocolate in order to be delicious. These
travel well in lunch boxes.
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons maple flavoring
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup chopped walnuts
Confectionersí sugar, optional
Preheat oven to 350.
In a mixing bowl, cream butter and brown sugar. Add maple flavoring. Add eggs
one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour and baking
powder; add to creamed mixture. Stir in walnuts. Pour into a greased 9-in,
square baking pan.
Bake at 35O for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near
the center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Dust with confectionersí
sugar if desired.
Yield: 16 brownies.
