Candy-Topped Oatmeal Bars Recipe
1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine plus 2 tablespoons butter (room temperature; divided)
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 egg yolks
1 cup flour (sift, then measure)
1 cup rolled oats
6 plain chocolate candy bars (1 ounce each)
1/2 cup mixed nuts
Preheat oven to 350° F.
In bowl, mix 1 cup butter, the sugars and egg yolks thoroughly. Stir flour and oats into butter mixture. Spread in greased and floured 13 x 9-inch pan. Bake in preheated oven 20 to 25 minutes or until done. Remove from oven and cool 10 minutes.
In top of double boiler, melt chocolate bars and remaining 2 tablespoons butter; spread over cooled cookie layer. Sprinkle with nuts; cut into bars.
Makes 4 dozen bars.
