2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
1 cup shortening
4 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup raisins, presoaked
2 cup walnut pieces
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and beat until light. Add vanilla and mix
Combine dry ingredients and add gradually to creamed mixture,
mixing well after each addition.
Add nuts and raisins or grapes. Mix well.
Drop onto cookie sheet and bake at 325ºF until browned, 12 to
15 minutes. Store in tight container with apple wedge.
