Passover Caramel Pecan Squares

4 plain matzos
1 C. margarine
1 C. brown sugar
1 C. pecans or walnuts, optional
1 C. parve chocolate chips
1/2 C. sliced almonds, optional

Heat oven to 350�F. Line 10 x 15-inch pan with tin foil. Grease it really well.

Fit plain matzos in pan, breaking them up if necessary.

In medium saucepan, cook margarine and brown sugar to about 234�F. on candy thermometer, stirring constantly. If using nuts, when sugar mixture reaches 234�F., remove pan from heat before adding chopped pecans or walnuts, if using. Pour brown sugar mixture over matzos.

Bake 15-20 minutes. Remove from oven; sprinkle with chocolate chips. Turn oven off; return to oven for 2 minutes to melt chips. Take out and spread chocolate chips to make smooth top. Sprinkle with sliced almonds, if desired. Immediately cut into squares (or triangles) and serve.
