Fresenburg Bakery Gooey Butter Cake

1 recipe Fresenburg coffeecake dough (see recipe on main page)
1 1/2 C. granulated sugar
1/4 t. salt
1/2 C. butter
3 T. shortening
1/4 C. corn syrup
1 large egg
1/4 C. milk
1 C. all-purpose flour
1 t. vanilla
2 or 3 drops yellow food coloring

Preheat oven to 350�F.

Divide dough in half; shape to fit two greased and floured 8-inch square or 9-inch round baking pans. Cover; set aside.

In a medium bowl, beat sugar, salt, butter, shortening and corn syrup until smooth and light. Add egg; beat until well incorporated. Add milk, flour, vanilla and yellow coloring; mix until smooth. Spread over prepared crusts.

Bake about 20 minutes. Do not overbake; topping will set after cake cools.

Yield: 2 cakes.
