Miss Mary Bobo's Maple Pecan Popcorn
1 c pecans, toasted
8 c plain popcorn
6 T unsalted butter
1 1/2 c pure maple syrup
1/2 t salt
Toss together popcorn and pecans in a large bowl. Line a shallow
baking pan with foil, then lightly oil foil and a wooden spoon. Melt
butter in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Add syrup and salt,
then boil, without stirring, 15-20 minutes, until mixture reaches
300 degrees on a candy thermometer. Pour syrup over popcorn mixture,
stirring briskly with oiled spoon to coat. Immediately spread
popcorn into baking pan. Cool completely, then break into bite-sized
pieces.
