1 lb. frozen phyllo pastry

8 apples, cored, peeled and chopped

1/2 C. granulated sugar

1/2 t. ground cinnamon

1/2 t. ground allspice

1 T. cornstarch

1/4 C. currants or raisins

1/2 C. walnuts

1/2 C. melted butter, plus more to butter phyllo

1 C. confectioner's sugar

Defrost frozen phyllo to room temperature, 2 to 4 hours. In a medium bowl, combine apples, sugar, cinnamon, allspice, cornstarch, currants, walnuts and butter. Mix well; set aside. Layer 5 sheets phyllo on top of the other on a flat surface, brushing each sheet with melted butter. Spread 1 cup of filling along one long end.

Preheat oven to 350 F. Brush a baking sheet with butter. Roll phyllo over filling to create a long, filled tube. Fold side edges over 1/2 inch to prevent filling from falling out. Repeat with remaining ingredients and transfer rolls to pan. Brush tops generously with melted butter. Bake 1 hour. Remove from oven; sift confectioner's sugar over tops and sides of rolls while still hot. Cool; cut into 2-inch pieces.
