French Bread Pizza

Large loaf French bread, split in half lengthwise
Butter, softened

Pizza Sauce
1 can tomato paste, 6 ounces
1 can tomato sauce, 8 ounces
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp sweet basil leaves, crumbled
1/2 tsp oregano leaves, crumbled
1 tsp dried parley flakes
1/4 cup cheese

Pizza Toppings
12 ounces mozzarella cheese, grated, divided
1 cup cooked ground beef or pork sausage, pepperoni slices, salami slices
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms

Lightly butter cut sides of bread and place on cookie sheet, toast under broiler until light golden brown. Watch carefully.

Prepare sauce by combining all sauce ingredients in small saucepan; simmer on low heat for 5 minutes or could use 1 1/2 cups prepared pizza sauce.

Spread sauce on cut sides of bread; sprinkle cheese over sauce reserving 1/2 cup. Spread meat and vegetables evenly over cheese and sprinkle with reserved cheese.

Bake at 450 for 10 to 12 minutes. Cut each length in thirds to serve.
