Glazed German Spice Cake
Cake
1 package (18.25 ounces) German chocolate cake mix
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped, divided
1 can (15 ounces) sliced pears in light syrup, undrained
3 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon plus spice blend
Glaze
1 cup powdered sugar
3-4 teaspoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1. For cake, spray a stoneware fluted pan with vegetable oil.
2. Place cake mix in a bowl. Chop walnuts; reserve 2 tablespoons for garnish.
Place remaining walnuts into batter bowl. Drain pears, reserving juice; pour
juice into a measuring cup. Add enough water to juice to measure 1 1/3 cups. Add
liquid, eggs and spice blend to batter bowl; mix until well blended. Chop pears
using a food chopper; stir into batter. Pour batter into pan, spreading evenly.
3. Microwave cake on HIGH 13-14 minutes or until cake tester inserted near
center comes out clean. (Cake will be slightly moist on top, near center.) Let
stand in microwave 10 minutes. Invert onto a round platter.
4. For glaze, combine powdered sugar, milk and vanilla in a small bowl; whisk
until smooth. (Glaze will be thick.) Pour glaze over cake. Sprinkle with
reserved walnuts. Serve.
