Pacific Rim Marinated Tri-Tip recipe

1 1 1/2- to 2-pound beef tri-tip

4 green onions, sliced

1 C. soy sauce

3 T. dark sesame oil

1 T. granulated sugar

1 T. chopped fresh ginger

4 cloves garlic, crushed

1 t. toasted sesame seeds (see note)

Trim excess fat from meat. Combine onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, ginger and garlic. Place meat and marinade in covered glass dish or plastic bag. Refrigerate 6 to 8 hours or overnight.

Remove meat from marinade. Grill over medium coals, turning occasionally, about 30 to 35 minutes for rare, or to desired doneness. Remove from grill; tent with foil for 10 minutes. Cut cross-grain into thin slices. Place on a serving platter; sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Note: To toast sesame seeds, place in a dry skillet over medium heat. Toast until seeds turn light brown, shaking the pan to keep the seeds from scorching.

Makes 6 servings
