Sour Cream Walnut Cake
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs, separated
3 tbsp. grated lemon peel
2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup sour cream
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 tbsp. orange juice
2 tbsp. lemon juice
Cream 1 cup sugar with butter, add egg yolks one at a time and beat
well after each addition. Stir in lemon peel. Sift together flour,
baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture
alternating with sour cream, blending well after each addition. Beat
egg whites until stiff and fold into batter along with chocolate
pieces and nuts. Turn batter into a greased and floured tube pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. While hot
baste with sauce made by combining 1/2 cup sugar, orange and lemon
juices brought to a boil. |
