Caramel Squares

2 1/3 cups brown sugar
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until 240�F degrees on candy thermometer. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and chopped nuts (optional). Turn immediately into buttered 9 X 9-inch or 10 X 13-inch pan.
