2 10 oz. pkgs. frozen cut broccoli
3 medium onions -- quartered
1/4 C. butter
2 T. all-purpose flour
1/4 t. salt
1 C. milk
1 3 oz. pkg. cream cheese -- cut in cubes
1/2 C. shredded Cheddar cheese
1 C. fine dry bread crumbs
Cook frozen broccoli according to package directions; drain. Cook fresh onions in boiling salted water till tender; drain. In saucepan, melt half of the butter. Blend in flour, salt, and dash pepper. Add milk. Cook, stirring constantly, till thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat; blend in cream cheese till smooth.
Place vegetables in a 1 1/2-quart casserole. Pour sauce mixture over and mix lightly. Top with Cheddar cheese. Melt the remaining butter; toss with bread crumbs. Sprinkle atop casserole. Bake at 350°F. till heated through, 40 to 45 minutes.
