Crumb Topped Pasta and Cheese
2 3/4 cups small pasta
1/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
2 cups milk
1 1/4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup soft bread crumbs
1 clove minced garlic
In large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta for 8-10 minutes or
until tender. Meanwhile in saucepan, melt 2 Tbsp butter over medium
heat; stir in flour and mustard. Cook stirring constantly for 1
minute. Slowly whisk in milk; cook, stirring for 6-8 minutes or
until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of the
cheddar cheese, just until it starts to melt. Stir in pasta. Season
to taste. Spoon into buttered casserole. In small saucepan, melt
remaining butter over medium heat; stir in bread crumbs and garlic.
Cook 1 minute. Sprinkle over pasta mixture. Top casserole with
remaining cheese and bake at 325�F for 30 minutes or until golden
brown. |
