Butter Pecan Turtle Bars Recipe
For the crust:
2 C. all-purpose flour
1 C. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 C. butter, softened
For the topping:
1 1/2 C. whole pecan halves
2/3 C. butter
1/2 C. brown sugar
1 C. milk chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350� F. In a large bowl, combine crust ingredients. Mix at
medium speed, scraping down sides of the bowl often, until well mixed. Pat
mixture firmly in an ungreased 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
Sprinkle pecans over unbaked crust. In a 1-quart pan, combine remaining 2/3 C.
butter and remaining 1/2 C. brown sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring
constantly, until mixture begins to boil. Let boil for 30-60 seconds, stirring
constantly. Remove from heat and pour evenly over pecans and crust.
Bake in preheated 350� F. oven for 18-22 minutes until caramel layer is bubbling
and crust is golden brown. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with
chocolate chips. Allow chips to melt slightly. Swirl chips as they melt with
knife or spatula. Do not spread; the top layer should have a marbled appearance.
Let cool completely and cut into bars.
