Sponge Candy Recipe
1 C. sugar, granulated or brown
1 C. dark corn syrup
1 T. vanilla
1 T. baking soda
2 large bars Hershey chocolate, melted
In a large, heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup and vanilla. Bring to boil
over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Cook, without stirring, to
290-300� F., or until mixture separates into hard brittle threads when dropped
into cold water. Remove from heat. Quickly stir in baking soda. Mix well.
Turn into a deep, buttered 9 x 13-inch pan. Do not spread. Cool, then break
into pieces. Dip into melted chocolate, if desired.
