Glazed Ham of My Dreams
1 bone-in ham (18 to 20 lbs.)
1 can (12 oz.)
Coca-Cola
60 to 75 whole cloves
Fruit glaze
Preheat oven to 475F.
Remove plastic wrapper and netting from ham. Put ham in sturdy roasting pan, fat
side up. Score ham 1/4-inch deep diagonally in cross hatch, making cuts 1 inch
apart, and creating diamonds. Insert whole cloves, sharp end down, into diamond
intersections. Do not score too deeply, or, as ham cooks, the cloves will fall
into the deep crevices. Pour Coca-Cola over scored ham and bake it in middle of
the oven for 1 hour.
Remove ham and lower oven temperature to 350F. Pour on just enough glaze to
cover entire ham and bake 4 more hours in oven. Re-glaze ham every 20 minutes,
using only fresh glaze each time. Let stand 10 minutes before slicing.
Makes 25 to 30 servings.
Note: An 18-pound bone-in ham serves 25 to 30 people.
