1 lb. vanilla caramels
8 t. water
1 t. vanilla
1 12-oz. package semisweet chocolate bits
2 6-oz. cans pecan halves (192 halves)
Melt the caramels with vanilla and the water in the top of a double boiler.
Melt the chocolate bits separately and set aside in a warm place.
On a buttered cookie sheet, group four pecan halves close together to simulate the legs of a turtle.
Spoon a teaspoon of caramel mixture in the center of each group of nuts, half covering each nut.
Spread a bit of melted chocolate over each candy and let stand until set.
Makes 4 dozen "turtles."
