Frosted Drop Brownies
1/2 cup butter or regular margarine
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
2 squares unsweetened chocolate -- melted
1 3/4 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts
36 walnut or pecan halves
Shiny White Icing:
2 cups sifted confectioners sugar
Cream or milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
few drops red food color -- optional
Peppermint extract -- optional
Chocolate Icing:
1 square unsweetened chocolate -- melted
1 cup sifted confectioners sugar
Cream or milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Stir in
melted chocolate. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Add
alternately with the milk to the chocolate mixture. Stir in vanilla
and chopped nuts. Drop by teaspoonfuls 2-in. apart onto ungreased
baking sheet; bake in hot oven (400') 8 to 10 minutes. Remove
cookies and cool on racks. Drop 1 teaspoon Shiny White or Chocolate
Icing onto center of each cookie and swirl with a fork. Top with
walnut or pecan halves.
Shiny White Icing: Add enough cream or milk to confectioners sugar
to make icing of spreading consistency. Add vanilla. (Tint part of
the icing a delicate pink with a few drops red food color. Flavor
with peppermint extract, if you like.)
Chocolate Icing: Add melted chocolate to confectioners sugar; beat
in enough cream or milk to make icing of spreading consistency. Add
vanilla.
