Two-Way Cookies
4 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup regular margarine
1 cup sugar
1 1/4 cups light brown sugar -- firmly packed
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon orange extract
1 (6-ounce) package semisweet chocolate pieces
1 (3-1/2-ounce) can flaked coconut
Sift together flour, salt and baking soda. Cream margarine until
fluffy; gradually add sugars. Add eggs, one at a time, beating
thoroughly after each addition. Add vanilla; blend. Add sifted dry
ingredients. Mix well. Divide batter in half. Add orange extract and
chocolate pieces to one half dough and coconut to other half. Drop
by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2-in. apart onto greased baking sheet.
Bake in a moderate oven (350') 12 to 15 minutes. Remove cookies and
cool on racks.
