Afternoon Tea The choice of food served at a Tea depends on the season of the year and the occasion. A traditional tea consists of a selection of sandwiches and savories, followed by scones or cookies and preserves, pastries, cookies, cakes or quick breads. For a bridal shower, I would serve an elaborate cake as a centerpiece. The essential drink to accompany afternoon tea is, of course, tea. Many other drinks are also traditionally served. In the summer, ice tea or juleps, and in the winter, spiced tea or warm punches are also very good.
